The Supreme Box - My Box Of Shadows
The Supreme Box

We’re unboxing a different kind of beauty this month at Melanin Squared. For those of you who don’t know, I love to celebrate the Earth and natural energies. Put simply, I’m spiritual/pagan. Because of this, I’m always looking for resources that can help me learn about being more in touch, not only with the physical world but the spiritual world as well. Enter black-owned subscription box: Box of Shadows. I’ve known about and used this box for months and thought it’d be nice to share this resource “For Pagans, By Pagans”. This little box of magic may seem unassuming, but every month it’s packed with info and useful items. There are 3 boxes to choose from whether you’re a beginner who wants to learn more or an experienced witch looking to add to your collection they have a box for you. The box I’m subscribed to, The Supreme, is for more advanced practitioners and is curated for turning knowledge into practice.

The September Supreme box helps users focus on the seasonal transformation we experience as we head into the Autumn season and celebrate Mabon: The Autumnal Equinox. We’re heading in to harvest season and preparing for longer nights as The Wheel of the Year comes full circle.

Chime Candle Bundle
Chime Candle Bundle
  • Red is a powerful color representing passion, fire, and love, but also the root chakra which is your foundations, safety, and physical identity.
  • Purple assists with mastery, ambition, and wealth and corresponds with the third eye chakra’s intuitive and spiritual energies.
  • Representing the throat chakra, blue is a color of expression and communication as well as healing and forgiveness.
  • Finally, white connects to spirituality or purity; it also holds the crown chakra’s meaning of transcending the ego and connecting to the “universal I”.

Simply put, chime candles are small, low, or no-drip candles that can be used for spell and ritual work. The colors have different meanings and can be used for anything from protection and abundance spells, to banishing and meditation work. You can set whatever intent you like for these candles, but I’ll share some common intentions that are associated with these colors. I plan on using this bundle in the “Mabon Meditation Ritual for Transformation” included on the info sheet to help me transition with the seasonal change that Mabon represents.

Along with a myriad of practical and medicinal uses, white sage is considered to be an equally useful magical tool. This bundle will help aid in protective, cleansing, and love spells and also come in handy for the Walnut Transformation Spell included this month. One of the most common uses, however, would be to let the sage smoke after lighting so it can cleanse your room, your tools, or your mind.

Alter Card Face
Alter Card Face

This alter card represents the endless cycle of death and rebirth and reminds us that as the year comes to a close that there are always new beginnings behind every ending. This particular image of the Wheel of Life also brings to light the cycle of hate, desire, and ignorance we often experience that cause suffering in our lives. At the same time, it encourages us to “follow the path of non-attachment” to break free from the vicious cycle and into one filled with bliss.

“The Wheel of Life is a poignant reminder of the delicate balance between truth and illusion in our lives.”

Hematite Bracelet
Hematite Bracelet

Hematite is believed to bring balance to the physical and metaphysical bodies due to its magnetic nature. And though it’s associated with invincibility and the God of war, hematite is a delicate stone that must be taken care of by its owner. It can be useful when releasing negativity, working to heal trauma, or just connecting to mother Earth. There are a number of magical and practical applications that hematite can be used for.

Sometimes it’s the little things that help you get into the spirit of the season and connect to the change happening around us. Not only is this oil handy for bringing a warm, new scent to your home, but it can be used in mediations and spells for various reasons. Cinnamon is often associated with autumn and the end of summer. Represented by the element of fire, it invokes protection (self and home), money, love, success, and manifestation!
